Annual Smoke Alarm Checks
As per Fire and Emergency Services (Domestic Smoke Alarms) Amendment Act 2016 (Qld), all smoke detectors in rental properties need to be checked within 30 days of the beginning of a new tenancy or renewal of an existing tenancy. Detectors need to be cleaned and checked every 12 months as a minimum. If the detector is over 10 years old, it will need to be replaced with a new compliant unit that meets AS 3786-2014. Asset Services can take care of these checks and while we are at it why not get us to Test and Tag the fixed appliances and RCD's (residual current devices).

The Check
We don't just press the button and send you an invoice, we will clean the detector, check it is currently compliant, remove and test the battery, replace the battery if needed and then test the unit. When batteries need replacing we use only high quality cells, by using cheaper brand batteries the performance can be reduced and life span can be halved. If the detector is not compliant or has failed, we are able to replace it on the spot so the property is immediately safe again.
