2022 Compliance Rules
1st January 2022 the rules change for rental properties then 2027 for everyone else. In a nut shell, properties will need smoke alarms in each bedroom in addition to the existing alarms guarding the hall way and exit. These alarms must be of a Photoelectric type only, with an interconnection to all other alarms in the dwelling. This interconnection can be hardwired or wireless. Any existing 240-volt mains powered alarms must be replaced with 240 volt only and cannot be replaced with battery powered devices. All other alarms must have a tamper proof 10-year battery life and also be interconnecting. Of course, all alarms must meet AS 3786-2014.
